General Meaning – New Moons
The NEW MOON represents the beginning of our 29 day lunar month. During a New Moon, the moon is roughly sitting between the Earth & the Sun, hence the Sun is shining on the ‘dark side of the moon’, the side of the moon we never see. As a result, we cannot see the moon as the side that faces the Earth is not illuminated.
The Moon & the Sun emanate frequencies and these energy waves influence the tides, our bodies, our emotions & our consciousness. In addition, during a NEW MOON, both the Moon & Sun are in the same Zodiac sign… giving an exponential boost or concentration of the energy.
The SUN represents our ‘outer-world’, our identify, our personality, our ego. It represents how we ‘shine our light’ out into the world, the present moment, our yang or masculine archetype expression. The Sun offers us strength, courage and illuminated insight of the Soul.
The MOON represents our ‘inner world’, our hidden emotions, desires, our shadow-self, fears/worries and our dreams. It represents our feelings, our unconscious beliefs, the past and our yin or feminine goddess archetype. The Moon offers us the ability to feel, learn from the past and creatively unlock and express our essence.
During a NEW MOON, the side of the moon that remains invisible to us here on Earth is being illuminated by the Sun. Thus our own ‘invisible’ side, our inner feelings, emotions and desires are also being illuminated during a new moon. During this illumination, we are given a window of opportunity to start a fresh, let go of the energy of the previous cycle and set our intentions, dreams & inner-most desires into conscious action.
The NEW MOON is a great time to set your intentions, write down goals or begin new projects for the forthcoming cycle. Consider sitting in ceremony or personal meditation and affirming to the Universe your intentions & inner-most heartfelt desires for the cycle.

Our September NEW MOON falls in the Zodiac sign of VIRGO. Virgo is an Earth sign and is ruled by Mercury and the sixth house of Work / Daily Life / Healing & Wellbeing. Click on the image right to enlarge/view in new window.
After the illuminatory Lunar Eclipse followed by the Solar Eclipse last month in August 2017, our September New Moon is guiding us to take a deep look at our Health and assess areas where your energy / life maybe out of sync.
Nurturing your own needs and serving yourself in warm-hearted & kind ways, enables you to show up fully in all areas of your life – your work, relationships and life itself ! Being the martyr, struggling to give 100% to a thousand and one things (and all at once), will eventually lead to burn-out and an inability to be of service to anyone… let alone yourself.
Radical self-care is a life-long practice and this New Moon is helping you get back on track if you find that your physical/emotional/mental health has been struggling of late.
I captured the photo (see image at the top of this page) on the weekend just passed, when my family & I were camping at Rainbow Beach (Cooloola Coast, Australia). We climbed the Carlo Sand Blow to watch the sunset… and the Suns rays didn’t fail us at all… gifting our rainbows of liquid LIGHT & LOVE. This photo is a reminder that beauty is all around us, everywhere at every moment… but sometimes we are so caught up in DOING stuff, that we miss the eternal joy of the present moment. This is a great reminder to take into the energy of our Virgo New Moon.
Interestingly, the minor planet CHIRON (the wounded healer) during its retrograde transit is in direct opposition (at 26.310 Pisces) to our conjuncted Sun & Moon – New Moon (at 27.270 Virgo). Chiron represents our deepest wounds, areas in our life/subconscious where we feel/experience lack, shame, low self-worth and insecurity. Thus Chiron’s opposition with our New Moon will take us even deeper into our selves… directing us to OWN areas that we know are out of balance… and WHY we continue to hurt ourselves and the defence mechanisms that give rise to our internal battles with our deepest wounds.
This could make for a rather uncomfortable New Moon (particularly if you are fighting against what maybe coming up), but personally I see this is a great opportunity to LOVE yourself more deeply, rather than being on reactive auto-pilot in your life. Remember last week when I fell down the stairs in my home… well this was my pre-New Moon/Chiron wakeup call to slow down, let go of the need to mult-task and focus my attention on ONE thing at a time. Yes, to simply BE PRESENT.
I recommend this New Moon to do an audit (maybe make up a chart, or create a list) to identify where you are directing your energy/time (consider Work, Play, Family, Exercise, Fun, Meal Preparation… and oh yeah, not to forget peaceful time alone) and make changes to your schedule that enable you to not just function 24/7, but rather flourish in every way.
As I mentioned earlier in the month, NEPTUNE is in its retrograde path until November 2017. I feel that Neptune in Pisces (12.270 Pisces), is having an influence on our New Moon (though to a lesser degree than what we experienced during a last New Moon). It is gently activating Chiron/New Moon Opposition and taking us deep into our psyche, deep into our inner-selves and uncovering an authentic truth. Maybe this will be a most helpful ally with your New Moon ‘life balance audit’.
In addition, with JUPITER & URANUS, please be mindful that this tug-of-war between what you want to expansively break free from (Jupiter) and the shock value or out of the box nature (Uranus), may be playing with your psyche… such that you have this pent-up urge to drop EVERYTHING in your life and do a complete turn of direction, to rebell & break free. However, maybe the best way to work with the Jupiter/Uranus opposition (whilst you are doing your ‘life balance audit’) would be to allow more free time to be creative, time to be adventurous and time to allow spontaneity into your life. Rather than getting caught in the trap of scheduling every minute of every day (yikes, life is not a prison after all, do you really need to live to a 24hr schedule)…. allow space & be flexible for your free-spirited nature to roam in unpremeditated ways.
On a bit of a side note this New Moon… you may have read about the belief that on the 23 September (which happens to be the September Equinox), ‘Revelation 12’ (from the Book of Revalation in the New Testament) will come into being.
As shown in the diagram right (click on the image to view gif in a new window), Revelation 12 metaphorically describes “a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.”
The proponents of the Revelation 12 Sign say that the woman represents the constellation Virgo and the crown of twelve stars represents the nine stars of the constellation Leo in conjunction with Mercury, Mars, and Venus. The moon appears to be under the “feet” of the constellation Virgo in September 2017 and the sun will be passing through the constellation, which they say is what is meant by the woman being “clothed with the sun”.
Many people worldwide believe that these astronomical alignments occurring in September 2017 will fulfill this prophecy word-for-word. What do I think ? You can read a little more about Revelation 12 here.
Overall, most importantly this New Moon (particularly as it falls on the eve of our International Day of Peace – 21 September)…. don’t be too tough on yourself. Let you mind discover this New Moon, from a sacred place of non-judgement, areas where you need to make changes/make improvements…. and then simply LOVE yourself enough to step-by-step implement these changes that enable you to SHINE & BE your natural, vibrant, sparkly & vivacious self.

Due to the tilt in our Earth’s axis of rotation, throughout the calendar year the Sun appears to rise and fall in different regions of the Sky, creating the Seasons of the year. This is not of course due to the Sun moving, but due to the Earth moving relative to the Sun.
The four season’s come into fruition by the two Equinox’s (Spring & Autumn) and the two Solstices (Winter & Summer) each Solar year. Read More about our Equinoxes & Solstices >
In each solar year we have two Equinox’s, one in March (usually around the 20/21st) and one in September (usually around the 22/23rd).
As the Sun enters Aries toward the end of March we have the Autumn Equinox (Southern Hemisphere) and Spring Equinox (Northern Hemisphere). And then as the Sun enters Libra toward the end of September we have the Spring Equinox (Southern Hemisphere) and the Autumn Equinox (Northern Hemisphere).
The Equinox is a powerful portal gateway of ascension into higher levels of consciousness. At this time of unity, the feminine & masculine merge as one, opening opportunities to unify duality within our selves, and expand our awareness to greater dimensional/light octave levels.
During our SEPTEMBER SPRING EQUINOX (in the Southern Hemisphere) we prepare for our re-birth and awakening from the sleep of winter. The long inhalation of the Great Cosmic Breath reaches its peak at the Spring Equinox and then subsequently transitions into the ‘out breath’. The Spring Equinox until the Summer Solstice is the long exhalation of the Great Cosmic Breath, the budding, flowering and fruiting of plants, new life springs into action and a sense of joyful expression out into the world takes place.
During our SEPTEMBER AUTUMN EQUINOX (in the Northern Hemisphere) we are bringing our energy inward, in preparation for the rest ahead. The long exhalation of the Great Cosmic Breath reaches its peak at the Autumn Equinox and then subsequently transitions into the ‘in breath’. Autumn Equinox to the Winter Solstice is the long inhalation Cosmic Breath, whereby energy is drawn inward, within us and within the Earth. Animals hibernate, seeds sleep and spirit communes with Earth’s Heart for renewal, regeneration and healing.
Thus our SPRING / AUTUMN EQUINOX represents our moment of TRANSITION, the moment of stillness between the in & out breath, day and night are of equal length – the energies coming together as one – Heaven & Earth, Spirit & Matter, Mind & Soul.
This transitionary moment of the Spring / Autumn Equinox is a moment of stillness, a space between the words, a space of UNITY. It is the moment of spontaneous healing and a synergistic moment of miracles & pure ecstasy through the ONENESS of DIVINE LOVE.

Cosmic Breathing is the art of wholehearted breathing that awakens you to the Cosmic Breath rhythms of the moment, the day, the season and the year.
Cosmic Breathing is not just a practice done in the moment of meditation, but is a mindful practice that becomes an integral part of your life and a practice that incorporates every breath from birth to death, both conscious and unconscious.
