The East Coast has been getting most of the attention lately on the state by state effort to label genetically-engineered food. Vermont recently passed a bill and New York State’s bill is now moving. But let’s not forget about the western states, which are also critical to this fight. Right to know advocates in Oregon and Colorado are currently gathering signatures to place measures on the November ballot. Both of these states have a good shot at convincing voters to pass GMO labeling.
Keep in mind that a lawsuit by industry challenging the Vermont law is imminent, and lobbyists are continuing their efforts to undercut states’ rights in Washington D.C. The best way to head off a watered down federal “solution” is to show the strength of the movement at the state level. As we learned in California and Washington (states that narrowly lost GMO labeling initiatives despite being massively outspent) every debate draws more attention to the issue and weakens Big Biotech’s undue influence over our food supply.
Just last month, voters in Jackson County, OR, approved a ballot measure (resoundingly, 66 to 34 percent) to not allow the planting of GMO crops. That, combined with three east coast states that have thus far passed GMO labeling bills—Connecticut, Maine and Vermont—is creating a huge headache for the biotech and junk food industries.
But it’s still not enough. Dave Murphy, founder of Food Democracy Now!, and co-chair of California’s Prop 37, says he’s always believed in, and fought for, a 50 state strategy.“With three eastern states passing GMO labeling bills in the past year, every state we win matters more than ever. It’s now the West Coast’s turn to lock down mandatory GMO labeling for Americans. When Oregon and Colorado pass this fall, the FDA and politicians in Washington D.C. won’t be able to ignore the issue any longer.”
Marion Nestle agrees that the states are vital to this fight. She told me:
With a federal government completely dug in on resisting GMO labeling—something the public has demanded for more than 20 years—campaigns at the state level are more important than ever. If enough states pass GMO labeling bills, the industry will beg the government to step in and pass some kind of uniform labeling law. Then the trick will be to make it a law that respects the public’s concerns.
Living in the San Francisco area it’s easy to think you’re in the center of the good food universe. But on a recent visit to Boulder, CO, I discovered a thriving network of companies, media outlets and professionals dedicated to promoting organic and natural products.
I was also happy to learn about a passionate effort to label GMO foods in the Rocky Mountain state. Given that Boulder is the home of several enormously successful organic and natural food companies such as The Hain Celestial Group, White Wave and Aurora Organic Dairy, just to name a few, the ballot measure is a great opportunity for these industry leaders stepping up to the plate. A few local companies are on board, including Boulder Brands and retailers Natural Grocers and Alfalfa’s. (I visited Alfalfa’s and was impressed with the store’s GMO labels on shelves, but was told they would rather see mandatory GMO labeling.) Also, just last week, Whole Foods Market approved allowing the campaign to collect signatures at the retailer’s Colorado stores, which should boost the effort.
According to the campaign, “A voter win in Colorado—a renowned center of eco-awareness and healthy lifestyles —will be another critical milestone in GMO labeling.” I couldn’t agree more. The effort continues to gather steam, with 40,000 signatures so far, but an additional 100,000 are needed by the end of July to qualify for the November ballot. Larry Cooper, a leading proponent of Right to Know Colorado thinks his state has a great shot at winning this November. “Coloradans are an active group that stay healthy and care about what we eat; a high percentage of Coloradans eat natural and organic foods,” he told me.
Alan Lewis is director of special projects for Natural Grocers, a strong supporter of GMO labeling. I ask him why, as a retailer, this issue is so important. He told me that his store’s “customers want to know what is in their food because they understand how this can affect their health directly and through environmental impacts. They also want to return to a democratic food system, for which they are willing to pay a reasonable premium to support producers who share their values.” He also thinks Colorado can be a model for the nation because “Colorado regulates industry with a very light hand.” He added: “The GMO labeling initiative here takes a practical approach that does not threaten businesses. It merely allows consumers to be able to choose what they eat. When it passes, it will become the model for federal regulation because every government official will be able to support it.”
While California and Washington both suffered narrow defeats at the ballot box, their momentum and energy has spread to other states. And combined with the recent victories on the East Coast, wins in Oregon and Colorado would spell doom for Monsanto and Big Food’s efforts to undermine transparency in our food supply.

First in a Multiverse-Wide Ascension
Mira the Plaiadian informs us that “there is not a single place in all of Creation that is not affected by what is going on with the Earth right now.” (1)
St. Germaine explains why: apparently we’re “the first who are going through this process.” (2) Saan through Wes Annac tells us that “you’re helping strongly to initiate the ascension of this Universe.” (3)
What are they referring to? Well, apparently what is happening on Planet Earth is the first domino in the Ascension of the entire universe, as Goldenlight’s sources explain:
“Your planet is the catalyst in a ‘domino effect’ that will affect all other planets, galaxies, and universes in the multiverse; the ascension of Gaia and her inhabitants to higher dimensional levels is setting off a chain reaction in the multiverse wherein all other planets, star systems, galaxies, beings are being upgraded a level or two.” (4)
On another occasion her sources called Earth ”the star player in the game.” (5) They explain that “all attention is focused on Earth now as this is the staging ground for the upshifting of all elements in the universe.”
“The entire universe is going through an upgrade and Earth is an integral part of this, for just as your Earth beings and all other beings are a projection of the Divine Mind, so too are the other elements in the universe. And the upshifting and resetting of the systems of Earth must happen before the upshifting can occur in the rest of the universe. …
“You see, your planet plays a vital role in the Divine Plan for All and is an important Intergalactic member who will now be openly welcomed into the Intergalactic Councils with great ‘fanfare,’ joy and welcome from all the other members. Your planet is becoming a ‘grown-up’ and maturing from its infancy stage and coming out of the darkness of quarantine which has lasted a very long ‘time.’” (6)
Sanat Kumara said that, with our Ascension, everyone in the universe receives a fresh start.
“With this Ascension, with this shift and the conscious embracing of love, everybody, everywhere, all beings, all planets — which are sentient, as you know — receive a new start. It is a transfusion and a new beginning.
“What it marks, the impact as you would think of it is the beginning of a new cycle of existence. It is not a minor thing. And what it does, it not only allows those who are already well underway and in different dimensionality to fly freely, but everyone upon the planet as well.
“But it also affects those who have been caught in what you would think of as darkness to return back to the light, to have that illusion destroyed, to have a new beginning as well.” (7)
The Divine Mother appears to confirm this: “As you [ascend], you are setting the paradigm for the next and the next and the next.” (8)
A group calling itself the Company of Heaven explained what’s involved.
“The evolution of the Universe will be aided immensely by the Earth’s ascension, and in return, will aid in the evolution of other structures of existence far beyond even the grasp of what’ll be your united and ascended Universal consciousness.
“Indeed, as an aspect of the Universal ascension every planet and civilization will come together and interweave with each other in ways that see you working with us to help every other facet of Creation ascend.
“You’ll establish, along with us, a collective Universal consciousness and from there, we’ll help the Universe ascend and help in the next expansions and ascensions that’ll take place.
“The ripple effect the Earth’s ascension is causing couldn’t be expressed enough, as it’s to help bring about the Universal ascension which will then bring about continual greater ascensions in realms and Creational structures far beyond the consciousness of the Universal collective you’ll establish. (9)
Collaboration is important to the ripple effect of Earth’s Ascension, Jesus tells us:
“It’s important for your populace to reach the point of collective ascension, because of the importance of your ascension to that of the Universe. The Universe is ascending along with the Earth, and the various planets that’ll be uplifted because of the Earth’s ascension will themselves inspire and uplift other planets and civilizations to find evolution and aid in the Universal ascension.” (10)
He suggested that Earth’s Ascension was a much bigger event than has been hinted at so far and explained why it was muted.
“The Universal ascension is a much bigger event than has yet been hinted at by the majority of channels, and for quite a while, the protocol was to first have you focus upon your Earthly ascension and bring it about before we introduced the most intricate discussions regarding the Universal ascension. … You’re being led to greater understandings about the events taking place.” (11)
Sanat Kumara tells us that our Ascension will continue to ripple on well past the Fifth Dimension.
“That is why we say that it is not simply an ascension into the fifth-dimensional reality. It is to continue on and it is the freedom in form to be able to experience the different realities and dimensions.
“Now when that is anchored, the pattern, the repatterning, the grid, the model is set. And those planets who have had their own hurdles will then take the pattern, the energetic imprint of Gaia, and be able to utilize that and the energetic imprint of humanity and be able to utilize that with their own populations so that they may rise back to the place of love, back to a place of greater consciousness.” (12)
That’s why so many intergalactic ships are here observing us at this time, he explains.
“It is a system that is in flux. That is why so many are in attendance at this time. That is why you are being observed in a very positive light so closely. So much hinges on these hard decisions that each of you is making.” (13)
He adds:
“Well, they have always been watching Earth, and they have always been interested in the Ascension process, because it is unique. … So it is having a ripple effect throughout the entire universe. And the fact that the human race matured enough to say, no, we will care for everybody, has caused ripples and amazement throughout the galaxies!
“So they are watching very closely how you are doing it. And how it is going, because it will set the paradigm for other planetary Ascensions, other realms that want to work in this way.” (14)
This being the case, it shouldn’t be surprising that, as Sanat says, “some of the final pieces [were just] put in place very recently.”(15)
Thus, this Ascension is unique in the sense that it’s the first in which we take our physical bodies with us, transformed from a carbon base to a silicone or crystalline base. It’s also unique in that it’s the first in which a mass Ascension will occur. Its uniqueness was amplified by the fact that the population of the planet asked at soul level to wait longer so that the largest number of people possible could ascend. And finally it’s the first in that the entirety of the multiverse will ascend after it following the model presently being set and established on Earth.

Note from Goldenlight: GMO Labeling Laws are being implemented all over the country now…..thankfully!
After three unsuccessful attempts, legislation filed by state Rep. Ellen Story, D-Amherst, to require labeling of genetically modified foods appears close to approval in the House, following similar recent action in Vermont.
Story’s “right to know” bill, House 3996, would allow consumers to make informed decisions about the potential health effects and environmental impacts of the food they purchase. She acknowledged that even she is not convinced that genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are necessarily harmful.
“All I’m saying is, ‘It’s reasonable for us to expect to know, when we buy something, whether it has genetically modified organisms in it,’ ” she said. “I have scientist friends whom I trust and respect on both sides of this. Some say, ‘It’s nonsense. You don’t need to waste time doing this.’ Others say, ‘It’s much too early for us to know what the long-term effects are. We should be very careful.’ Since I’m not a scientist, I’m not taking a stand, but I’m saying it’s fair to want to know.”
The legislation, which incorporates another Story bill to require labeling of genetically modified seeds — has moved on to the House Ways and Means Committee after clearing the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture.
With 70 co-sponsors in the Legislature and support from a coalition that includes the New England Farmers Union, Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group, Seeds of Solidarity, NOFA Mass and 141 farms around the state, Story said, “This really is a grassroots effort. It’s very exciting to see how far it’s gotten this year. When it had a hearing at the Statehouse, there was standing room only. This is by far the most attention it’s gotten.”
Sarah Voiland of Red Fire Farm in Montague said, “I think it’s important to know what kind of food we’re eating and what kind of farming we’re supporting. There are a lot of questions and issues with GMOs, and having it labeled will help people make the right choices. It gives the choice to us.”
Buoyed by Vermont’s recently enacted legislation, following GMO labeling bills in Connecticut and Maine, Story said, “More and more legislators are hearing from their constituents, so there’s more and more of a push for this. As time passes, people hear about this and saying that to have a label seems reasonable.”
With only a couple more months remaining in the legislative calendar, she added, “I don’t know if there’s enough (support) to pass it. There’s a lot of opposition, mostly from Monsanto and its cohorts.”
Story said she was visited by someone on behalf of a Michigan baby-formula manufacturer who said he agreed that people should know what their baby formula contains, but added that the action should be taken at the federal instead of the state level.
“I said, ‘How much have you seen the federal government getting done recently?’ He said, ‘We couldn’t possibly send different kinds of formula to different states. It would be too costly and too difficult.’ That I didn’t buy,” Story said. “This would be much better if it were a federal decision, but since there doesn’t seem to be any chance of that, it’s one of those cases where the states say, ‘Rather than do nothing, we’re at least going to try.’ ”
Like the Connecticut and Maine legislation, the Massachusetts bill has a “trigger” mechanism allowing it to take effect only after at least five states, with an aggregate population of 20 million, pass similar laws. New York and New Jersey are now considering such legislation.
“It has a lot of hurdles yet, but we’re optimistic,” said Pat Fiero of Leverett, an organizer for MoveOn.org, which has circulated support petitions that have gathered 23,000 signatures. “We have an enormous support network, and we’d really like to get it passed this year.”
Meanwhile, Congressmen Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., and G. K. Butterfield, D-N.C., introduced federal legislation earlier this year that would create federal standards for voluntary labeling by manufacturers of foods that are free of genetically engineered ingredients, but it would also preempt any state approving GMO labeling provisions.
The Shelburne Falls-based New England Farmers Union has come out in opposition to that federal proposal and its preemption of action by states. “New England Farmers Union is in favor of requiring conspicuous, mandatory consumer labeling for foods made from or containing genetically modified organisms,” said its president, Roger Noonan. “This legislation would preempt state actions to label foods containing GMOs. … Surveys have consistently shown that consumers want more information about their food, not less.”

An Austrian company hopes to play a large role in ending the water crisis with a technology powered by renewable energy.
Pumpmakers created the NSP Solar Pump system with hopes of brining clean and safe drinking water to the nearly 800 million people around the world without it.
The United Nations estimates that 6 to 8 million people die each year from water-related diseases. That’s equal to about 10,000 deaths per day, with most under age 5.
“There are two main obstacles faced by the communities in this crisis—either communities have no access to clean drinking water at all or they have to rely on water pump systems that require a lot of maintenance, which in many cases is simply not available locally,” Dr. Birgit Stuck, field researcher for Pumpmakers, said in a promotional video.

Pumpmakers’ inexpensive system incurs no running costs while using solar energy to pump water from as deep as 300 feet, even on cloudy days. The company, which began working on the project in 2011, used “maintenance-free” materials to make it easy to construct and use.
While the solar pumps have been providing clean water for the people of Ndzofuine, a remote village in Mozambique, since 2012, Pumpmakers now envisions people and other companies strengthening their own local economies by providing the systems to their communities. Most of the components for the pump can be manufactured locally. Once Pumpmakers latest round of crowdfunding is complete, the company will be able to offer some of the hard-to-find components on its website, like the gear unit.
About 800 people in Ndzofuine get clean water from the pump with a capacity of up to 5,000 liters that are pumped from a depth of 262 feet each day.
“Our goal is to establish Pumpmakers.com as the platform that connects local pumpmakers with underserved communities and with organizations such as NGOs and private supporters,” according to the company video.
“With the power of the crowd, we can create a meaningful tool to prevent the shortages of water and poverty worldwide.”
