The Bridge ~ Step 35 ~ The Fifth Intent ~ Stay Positive
I see good, say good, and do good. I accept the gifts from all of my experiences. I am living in grace and gratitude. I stay positive.
It is within each of us to create our ideal by starting from where we are in this moment and expressing our gratitude for all things. We can change our thoughts, and change our lives, and change our world by becoming a perpetual optimist and lifting our Spirits to the heights.
“What agreements have you and I made?” I asked, after awhile. “I really don’t remember them.”
When he turned to face me, I felt like he was looking right through me. “Long ago, we made a pact, you and I, to come together so that I could assist you in your time of reawakening. Your path led you to Earth at this place and time where you fell asleep to the true knowledge of who you are and what you came here to do. Once, we walked by the northern seashore as brothers, and it was there you asked me to meet you here on this mountain to deliver you a message – a particular Intent of The Code.”
“And what is the message, Chief Seattle?”
“I am to remind you to Stay Positive, my brother.”
“Stay Positive?” I repeated.
“Yes, Robert, just as you did when you faced into that rogue storm moments ago. You stayed positive when you could have just as easily cursed Great Oneness, given up, and lain your body down to die. Instead, something deep within you allowed you to handle the crisis without complaint or reverting back to your old negative ways of thinking. You stayed positive and laughed, and in doing so, you created a way out for yourself.”
“Wait a minute,” I said. “Are you telling me that I had something to do with making it out of that storm alive? That doesn’t make any sense. I was totally at the mercy of it all!”
“But here you are now. Alive and well. How do you explain that?”
“I don’t know. Luck, I guess.”
He laughed so loud it echoed throughout the entire grotto. It sounded like we were surrounded by a hundred Indians. I couldn’t help but laugh some more myself.
“You did it, Robert,” he said, after we quieted down. “This much I know. It wasn’t luck that saved you, it was the Fifth Intent.”
“The Fifth Intent?”
“Yes, my brother. Even if you don’t know it, you tapped into the Fifth Intent. You chose to Stay Positive while everything around you was falling apart.”
“I did?”
“Yes,” he answered. “Unlike many who would have allowed their doubts and negative thoughts to take over and ruin their lives, you held steadfast to a positive outcome and trusted that you would be okay.”
Chief Seattle was reinforcing what Grandmother had told me. It occurred to me that they were talking about the same thing, but coming at it from different angles so I would be sure to get the point.
“You see, Robert,” he continued, “everything in your world exists because someone thought of it first. Your thoughts are immeasurably more powerful than you give them credit for. The Fifth Intent has been hidden from you so that others could keep you under their thumbs. But now, it is time for your people to fly free like the eagles, and it is for you to play a part in this by teaching them how to Stay Positive.”
“And just how do I do that?” As with the other Intents, I was confused at first.
“By telling them what happened to you out there in the storm. You see, my brother, as they begin to view their challenges as gifts instead, they will eventually come to realize that it’s wise for them to remain positive, even when they’re in the middle of a crisis.”
“I don’t think most people are ready to hear that yet, Chief… I said.
“The biggest barrier you’ll run into, Robert, is that many of your people have gotten into the habit of negative thinking. They have yet to realize that when they think negative, unserving, or harmful thoughts, that those thoughts create negative or harmful events. On the other hand, if they’d begin to put more of their attention on positive thoughts, thoughts of goodness and gratitude, then their lives – and their world – will change for the better.
